GPA Converter FAQ

Common questions about GPA to percentage conversion.

The standard method divides your GPA by the maximum scale and multiplies by 100. For a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale: (3.5 รท 4.0) ร— 100 = 87.5%. The university method uses GPA ร— 25, which gives the same result for 4.0 scale.
A 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale equals 87.5% using the standard conversion. This corresponds to a B+ letter grade. On a 10.0 scale, 3.5 would equal 35% โ€” always make sure you know which scale your GPA is measured on.
Different countries use different grading scales. International universities convert GPA to percentage to compare applicants from different countries on a common scale. For example, Indian universities use a 10-point CGPA scale while US universities use 4.0.
The standard method (GPA รท Scale ร— 100) works for any scale. The university method (GPA ร— 25) is specifically for the US 4.0 scale. For non-4.0 scales, only the standard method is accurate. When in doubt, use the standard method.
UK universities use a classification system: First Class (70%+), Upper Second / 2:1 (60โ€“69%), Lower Second / 2:2 (50โ€“59%), and Third (40โ€“49%). A US GPA of 3.7+ typically maps to a First Class, while 3.0โ€“3.6 maps to an Upper Second (2:1).
